The Shadow Knows
"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!"
Those words, uttered by several radio actors including the legendary Orson Welles, followed by mysterious, blood chilling laughter, heralded the beginning of a new adventure of The Shadow, famed crimefighter with the ability to cloud men's minds. During the 1930s and 40s, The Shadow was one of the top superheroes, climbing from the pulp magazines into radio, comic books and film. Even games: The Shadow published by Toy Creations back in the 1940s and The Shadow by Milton Bradley in 1993!
"The weeds of crime bear bitter fruit. Crime does NOT pay. The Shadow knows!"
Today, the search for knowing what evil lurks has spilled over into a whole host of new games and the theme of crime and the underworld lurks throughout our pages. In this issue, along with an assortment of the "usual suspects" - games of consistent and high quality - we also present a gang of games that try to prove that crime, at least as a theme for gaming, does pay.
But, of course, our love for games isn't limited to games of mobs and mayhem. The panorama of topics that games imitate and simulate is virtually limitless. And in our pages, we seek to shed light on the best. To miss out on such games of quality, well, that would truly be a crime.
In this issue, we gather together the "usual suspects" to present some of the cream of the recent crop of games. From a "crime" perspective, we run illegal booze, fight for mob control of New York City and plunder with criminals of the high seas - more commonly known as pirates! And, in keeping with the motif, we present, in our latest installment of our Game Classics series, another game of crime and criminal intent. But that's not all! While we struggle with empires and grab a ticket to ride across Europe, Greg Schloesser runs into a wall, Larry Levy buys, sells and trades, Frank Branham goes back into antiquity, Al Newman tells us a fairy tale and Mark Delano sees double! And, of course, much more.
Until next time, Good Gaming!
Herb Levy, President
