FOR SALE (Gryphon Games, 3-6 players, ages 8 and up, 20-30 minutes; $24.95)
For Sale by Stefan Dorra is yet another reissue of
a classic game from Gryphon Games. Long time readers of Gamers Alliance Report
know For Sale well. It was originally featured over
10 years ago, back in the Fall 1997 issue. Then, when Uberplay re-issued the
game with some changes, the game
reappeared in the
Summer 2005
issue. Now the third edition hits our pages.
The third edition retains some of the artwork and the beneficial changes found in the second, Uberplay, edition: the same distributions for the property and currency cards remain in effect and the game still will handle up to 6 players. The main differences - and improvements - involve clearing up those murky rules questions that threatened to needlessly slow down play, specifically:
1. Do you round up or round down when cashing in a bid?
AND
2. What happens when you use $2000 and $1000 coins? (The rules stated that you take back half your coins from a non-final bid.)
The new rules could not be clearer so let's pass it on.
Your round UP so, for example, when you bid $1000, you have to kick in HALF of that bid ROUNDED UP. So your total of $1000 is lost. Also, it doesn't matter how many coins you bid. You lose HALF of your total bid. This simple clarification makes the game impervious to rules lawyers and that's all to the good.
The return of For Sale to the gaming shelves is a welcome one. For Sale is a classic filler. The ideal game to start a game night or to top off a session of heavy brain-burners. Highly recommended. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Herb Levy
